About Our Boat
The Atlantic Adventurer is a 280 Cape Dory Sport made by Cape Dory Yachts of Massachusetts in 1986. Cape Dory has a reputation for building seaworthy power and sail boats for over 40 years. Because they built such a quality product, they could no longer compete with much cheaper plastic boats, and were forced to close their doors in the late eighties. These boats were built with a full keel drawing 3 1/2 feet, making them much more sea worthy, and smoother, than a flat bottom boat.

We found the Atlantic Adventurer in a boatyard on Long Island, New York, she needed a lot of work! We purchased the boat and had her trucked to our own full service boatyard in Portland, Maine, where she underwent a 14 month stem to stern complete refit. The refit included re-powering, new fuel and electric systems. Reconfiguring the fiberglass pilot house, new windows, padded seating – stainless steel gantry, bow rail and pulpit, swim platform, new head and electronics. This was a “hands on” project for Captain Jim, from design and construction, to the finished product. The end result, we now have one of the most custom, high tech, fastest, fishing machines on the Coast of Maine.

Safety Equipment – our safety features, which exceed the United States Coast Guard requirements, include 8 person duel chambered self inflating hydrostatically released life raft, “EPIRB” (Emergency Satellite Radio Beacon) 2 VHF radios, one water proof portable, cell phone, 2 GPS systems, with charts from Nova Scotia to the Bahamas, 24 mile radar, 1500 watt sonar for high resolution bottom detail any depth or any speed, personal flotation devices with lights at a 2 to 1 ratio, lifesaving ring, fire supression equipment, and extensive first aid equipment.
